“Study with due diligence,
As it is the only pathway that leads forward,
Exams every now and then,
Ain’t the best life a stable one.”
This song drew inspiration from a band member’s departure due to exams, with a dab of sarcasm. The song requires one to read between the lines, as they voice out their dissatisfaction towards the modern education system. The criticisms of endless exams, toxic learning environment, dysfunctional educational structure, throw the pressing issue of academics into the limelight, reflecting the anxiety faced by millennials.
When the younger generation is being fed with the notion that grades determine their future, and good grades lead to a good life, but is this the truth or is it just a convenient excuse?
“How many are left woke and aware we ask,
When everyone is marching in unison to the same destination,
Everyone is identical, drowned in the crowd,
With no recall of our true self.”
Have we, as humans, lost the true freedom of choice? Every individual in the crowd share almost identical routines; dreams and ideals are scoffed at, and money becomes the sole definition of success.
“Give me a bottle of wine and a good puff on the ciggie,
Let’s get lost without plans, I got time on my hands to waste,
I don’t wanna end up weeping alone in the time that will come.”
To that we say, stop judging yourself with standards set by the system and society, don’t be afraid to embrace the fire of youth, don’t scramble hastily to rush the future that will come eventually; live in the moment and enjoy every moment of happiness, however small and insignificant it might seem; embrace your passion, I mean, come on, we still have some good years ahead.
Here’s to everlasting youth.
Leaving a lasting impression with our music, telling tales of the pains and struggle of civilization.
